Last week marked a triumph for The Voice as it was launched in three new territories. After its runaway success in the U.S. and other countries, The Voice premiered in Germany, Belgium and Denmark with phenomenal results.
The Voice of Germany aired in key primetime slots on two consecutive evenings, November 24th and 25th. On the first evening, ProSieben scored a huge victory with a 23.8% marketshare in demography 18-49 . And if that wasn't enough, the following evening Sat.1 grabbed a 26.6% marketshare in demography 18-49 . Andreas Bartl, director of television for ProSiebenSat.1 TV in Germany, refers to the show possessing "unprecedented magic". Says Bartl: "It's clear the German audience is swept away by real music. With The Voice of Germany, its producer John de Mol's Talpa Media and Schwartzkopff TV have succeeded with something unique."
The show was received with just as much enthusiasm in Flemish-speaking Belgium, where The Voice of Vlaanderen attained a hefty 42% marketshare in the target group 18-54 when it kicked off on VTM on Friday the 25th.
Denmark followed suit with the launch ‘Danmarks største stemme' Voice of Denmark on TV2 on Saturday, November 26th. The show came off to a splendid start with a 60% share in the 21-50 yrs demography, and secured an overall rating (1,113,000 viewers) making it the most viewed Saturday night show on TV 2 in more than five years - only beaten by the season 1 finals of Strictly Come Dancing back in 2005.
The Voice continues to capture spectacular ratings wherever it airs. It's already been commissioned for a second primetime season by NBC in the US. Among other countries where the show has debuted are Portugal, Mexico, Turkey, Bulgaria, Romania and the Ukraine.
Upcoming launches of The Voice are set to take place in Israel, French-speaking Belgium and Finland. Many more countries, including France, Brazil and the UK, where the show will air on BBC1, will begin airing local versions in 2012.
The popularity of the show is not limited to television. It's also proving to be a huge online success, with a rapidly expanding social network community already exceeding 1.5 million Facebook fans worldwide.
