After the enormous success of Celebrities on Welfare, it's now time for Rich Kids on a Poor Budget! In this new show a number of kids with extremely wealthy parents, who always get anything they want, now get their ultimate reality-check! For once they are confronted with the fact that life is about more than just themselves...

For 1 whole month the spoilt brats have got to say goodbye to their homes, cars and dad's credit cards. Handing in everything that makes their lives oh-so-easy... Because for 30 days they will have to get by on a welfare budget. And after they have paid their electricity bills, rent and insurance policies there's not much more left to spend...
Not only do they have to manage on this - for them - impossibly low budget, they also have to move to a shabby house in a downmarket neighbourhood. They receive a small budget to set up home with and absolutely everything they need in their new house must be bought from that. So a trip to a luxury home decorating store is out of the question!

On top of their lifestyle switch, the rich kids not only have to look after themselves, but
- for the first time in their lives - also after pets and people less fortunate than them. They are sent to nursing homes, charities for the disabled and animal rescue shelters, to help the people looking after others day in day out. How do they deal with this new life, that is real life for so many others? And will their friendship survive such ‘hardship'...?
