About Talpa

Talpa was established in 2004 by self-made Dutch media entrepreneur John de Mol. By the age of 24 he was already a successful independent TV producer with an enormous passion for content creation. It’s therefore not surprising that content lies at the heart of Talpa. To continually develop new formats with global hit potential, De Mol assembled Talpa Content, a vast in-house creative team of individuals with expertise in various genres. 

As Talpa is all about content, the company’s programs cover all key genres. The company’s strong focus on digital integration, live interactivity and innovation is, by design, reflected in many of its shows. Talpa is a forerunner in developing truly integrated digitally connected formats and exploring brand extensions. 

Talpa Productions realizes the shows for The Netherlands, which continues to be the first country where Talpa formats premiere. As the company only brings proven product to the international market, Talpa became a shareholder in SBS Broadcasting to strategically ensure direct channel access in The Netherlands. 
 
Talpa Global was launched in 2014 to ensure TV formats and their digital extensions take place simultaneously for each international rollout. The global division, which comprises the International Sales Department and Talpa Connect, sends its consultants around the world to ensure the creative heart of the formats is properly translated and adapted to local needs. These rollouts are driven by Talpa’s strong global network, including owned and operated companies as well as joint ventures and strategic partnerships.

Although based in Hilversum and Laren in The Netherlands, Talpa is a truly international company. Its fully owned companies include Talpa Media USA, the division of the Talpa Media Group based in Los Angeles, as well as Talpa Middle East, based in Dubai. Other Talpa companies include Talpa UK, Talpa Italy and Talpa Nordic in, respectively, London, Rome and Copenhagen. The company also increased its stake in Schwartzkopff TV, renamed Talpa Germany. 

Talpa also has its own music division, Global Music & Talent Agency, and its own record label, 8ball Music. GMTA is the subsidiary of Talpa holding the worldwide music and artist exploitation rights for Talpa’s music formats such as The Voice, The Voice Kids and The Winner Is. Talpa Radio encompasses leading radio station 538 and Slam FM. In addition, Talpa holds a minority stake in radio corporation 100% NL, which operates a station under the same name, as well as one called Radio 10.
